A Company of Heroes

While the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the nation and world, our amazing care providers at UHS have risen to the challenge of improving lives every day.

With COVID-19 vaccinations beginning to roll out, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. As always, the work continues to protect our patients, our colleagues and our communities. Whether a nurse, doctor, therapist, technician, admissions staff, pharmacist, dietician, administrator or any number of other roles at a hospital, behavioral health facility, ambulatory care center or the corporate office, all UHS employees are important in the fight against COVID-19. They all make an impact – and they all are Healthcare Heroes.

What Makes a Hero?

Heroes are admired for courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities. A hero may combat adversity through courage or strength. A hero is brave, determined, selfless, protective – someone who inspires us all. At UHS, quality care is our passion, and our care providers’ relentless pursuit of high-quality, safe patient care, delivered with compassion and respect, marks them as heroes.

Simply stated, at UHS, HERO is spelled:

H   is for hope
E   is for empathy
R   is for resilience
O   is for one team

At our nearly 400 facilities, we’ve taken comprehensive action to lessen the risk of contracting COVID-19 in our hospitals by limiting visitation, requiring masks, enforcing social distancing and utilizing telehealth technologies, as well as implementing structural and programming changes to make our spaces safer.

We encourage everyone to join our employees in being heroes during this crisis.

Telling Our Story

In spring 2020, we launched our Healthcare Heroes campaign. Healthcare Heroes celebrates these courageous professionals, as well as community partners who stand with and support them by providing meals, donations and encouragement.

Watch a tribute to our Healthcare Heroes, featuring moments of triumph and loss, and gestures of appreciation, generosity and collaboration.

Below are examples of how Healthcare Heroes are making a difference across the country, from selfless doctors and nurses putting themselves at risk to help others, to pharmacists making hand sanitizer for colleagues, to inspiring expressions of respect by hospital staff, first responders and even the military. We are all in this together, and together we will win the fight against COVID-19!
