November 2026 — For 40 years, Wellington Regional Medical Center has grown alongside the communities it serves, expanding access to high-quality healthcare, advancing clinical services and building a legacy of compassionate care. To commemorate this milestone, Wellington The Magazine published a special 40th Anniversary Edition chronicling the hospital’s journey from its opening in 1986 to its role today as a leading regional medical center.

Through historical features, milestone highlights and interviews with physicians, employees, volunteers and leaders, the publication celebrates the people and progress that have shaped four decades of care. The edition also explores advancements in emergency medicine, medical technology and specialized services, while looking ahead to the future of healthcare in Palm Beach County.

Among those featured is UHS President and CEO Marc D. Miller, who shares a unique personal connection to Wellington Regional, having served as the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer from 2000 to 2002.

A Personal Connection to Wellington Regional Medical Center

In a special Q&A, Miller reflects on his early leadership experiences at Wellington Regional and how they helped shape his approach to healthcare leadership today.

“Working at Wellington Regional gave me a unique perspective at the right time in my career journey. I saw decisions made every day translated into real experiences for patients, families and caregivers.”

His experiences working alongside physicians, nurses and hospital staff reinforced a philosophy that continues to guide his leadership of UHS.

“Strategy, technology, capital investment and growth all matter, but they only matter if they help our people provide better care and improve the experience for patients and family members, one individual at a time.”

Four Decades of Growth and Investment

Miller reflects on Wellington Regional’s transformation from a community hospital into a sophisticated regional medical center, highlighting expansions in emergency care, women’s services, cardiovascular care, surgical capabilities and other specialized programs.

He also emphasizes UHS’ longstanding commitment to investing in healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to services as communities grow.

“We invest for the long term. We look at where communities are going, not just where they are today, and make sure our hospitals have the resources and capabilities to grow with them.”

That commitment continues today through investments across Palm Beach County, including the recent opening of Alan B. Miller Medical Center in Palm Beach Gardens, further strengthening UHS’ regional network and expanding access to advanced healthcare services.

Looking Ahead: Building on a Legacy of Care

As Wellington Regional enters its fifth decade, Miller sees significant opportunity to continue advancing clinical services, embracing innovation and meeting the evolving needs of patients and families. He also underscores the importance of preserving what has made the hospital successful throughout its history: its people.

“You can invest in a building or the latest technology, but ultimately, it’s people who take care of people. That’s what makes a hospital successful.”

Reflecting on Wellington Regional’s legacy and future, Miller added: “We’ve been part of this community since we opened 40 years ago, and we’re poised to continue to be an important part of it for the next 40.”
