KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (July 16, 2024) — Universal Health Services, Inc. (NYSE: UHS) has announced the appointment of Maria Zangardi to Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Corporate Officer, UHS, effective July 15, succeeding Gerry Johnson Geckle who is retiring following her 50-year career, the past 13 of which were with UHS. Reporting to President and CEO Marc D. Miller, Ms. Zangardi will drive Human Resources strategy and operations across the UHS enterprise.

Most recently, Ms. Zangardi served as Division Vice President, Human Resources. She joined UHS in 2018 as Regional Director, Human Resources for the Behavioral Health Division’s East Region. During her time at UHS, Ms. Zangardi has excelled in developing, planning and delivering Human Resources strategy and operational support for the Behavioral Health Division. She provided leadership, organizational assessment and talent development expertise across the HR domain, working closely with Division leadership.

Ms. Zangardi was recognized as a ‘Top 25 Woman in Business’ while serving on community boards focused on diversity, education, commerce, leadership and social services.
Ms. Zangardi’s prior roles included Vice President of Administration at Mohegan Sun Pennsylvania, PA’s first casino, where she spent over 11 years growing the organization through four major opening projects, progressively assuming more responsibilities in operations in addition to HR. Ms. Zangardi started her career at King’s College as an Admissions/Recruitment Counselor.
Ms. Zangardi earned her Master of Science degree in Counseling from the University of Scranton and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications/Media Technologies from Kings College. Additionally, Ms. Zangardi holds professional certifications from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI).
