Universal Health Services Announces Patriot Support Programs’ New Advisory Board

New members bring significant military expertise to guide our Commitment to our Armed Forces

Meet our Military Advisory Board Members. UHS Patriot Support ProgramsKing of Prussia, PA (January 8, 2024) — Universal Health Services (NYSE: UHS) is pleased to announce a new Advisory Board for its Patriot Support Programs initiative. At subsidiary behavioral health facilities across the country designated as Patriot Support Program entities, UHS provides treatment for active-duty military, veterans and their families. Programs and services are specifically designed to address the effects of combat stress, post-traumatic stress, depression, substance use disorder and other behavioral health issues.

The Patriot Support Programs Advisory Board is comprised of seven distinguished retired service members from various branches of the U.S. military, offering their insights and recommendations:

  • Lieutenant General (Ret) Ronald Place, MD, Former Director, Defense Health Agency
  • Lieutenant General (Ret) Bruce Green, MD, MPH, Former Surgeon General, United States Air Force
  • Rear Admiral (Ret) Bruce Gillingham, MD, Former Surgeon General, United States Navy
  • Rear Admiral (Ret) Paul Higgins, MD, Director, Health and Safety Division, United States Public Health Service and United States Coast Guard
  • Major General (Ret) Jerry L. Fenwick, MD, Former Joint Surgeon, National Guard Bureau
  • Chief Master Sergeant (Ret) Charles Cole, Former Chief of the Medical Enlisted Force, United States Air Force

“During 2023, we served more than 17,500 active-duty military personnel, veterans and family members across the Behavioral Health division, including through our designated Patriot Support Programs,” said Matt Peterson, Executive Vice President and President, Behavioral Health Division. “With a focused and dedicated Advisory Board offering the wisdom and talents of recent veteran Military members, we continue to enhance our offerings to ensure military personnel, veterans and family members receive the support and care they need to succeed. I have personally served with many of these accomplished leaders. I look forward to their guidance in the time ahead.”

UHS Patriot Support Programs were established to support the U.S. Department of Defense and Veterans Administration. The strain of multiple deployments and separations wears greatly on the bodies, minds and spirits of service members, veterans and their families. It is not uncommon for active duty service members and veterans to struggle with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), addiction or other behavioral health issues. We offer military-specific behavioral health services, designed to best support and address the needs of this patient population. We provide support for all Branches of the Military Services, their families and our Veterans.
