Universal Health Services and Trinity Health Michigan Hold Ceremonial Ribbon Cutting for the New Southridge Behavioral Hospital

Grand Rapids, MI (May 21, 2025) – Southridge Behavioral Hospital, the joint venture partnership between Universal Health Services (NYSE: UHS) and Trinity Health Michigan, held a ceremonial ribbon cutting today. The new Southridge Behavioral Hospital, located at 6291 Venture Hills Boulevard SW, near the Trinity Health Medical Center in Byron Center, Michigan, will open for patient care in the near future.

“Southridge Behavioral Hospital will help address the growing need for high quality mental and behavioral healthcare services for people struggling with depression, anxiety, substance use and other issues, and who need hospitalization and intensive individualized care,” said Matt Biersack, MD, President of Trinity Health Grand Rapids. “Southridge represents a sustainable, long-term solution and it will be a key piece of our behavioral healthcare continuum in West Michigan.”

On track to open and serve patients in the near future, Southridge Behavioral Hospital is licensed for 96 beds, serving adult and geriatric patients. When fully operational, the hospital will employ approximately 170 full-time and part-time staff including physicians, nurses, therapists, mental health technicians, administration, and dietary and housekeeping personnel. Programming is tailored to individual patient needs, with core psychiatric services and counseling supplemented with art therapy, music therapy and outdoor activities.
