48 UHS Facilities Recognized as Top Performers for 2012 by The Joint Commission

A total of 48 facilities owned and operated by subsidiaries of Universal Health Services, Inc. (NYSE: UHS) are recognized by The Joint Commission as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® for 2012. There are 43 behavioral health and five acute care hospitals listed, including 16 facilities honored for the second consecutive year. The Joint Commission identifies hospitals with exemplary performance using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions. The clinical processes focus on heart attack, pneumonia, surgery, children’s asthma, stroke, venous thromboembolism, as well as inpatient psychiatric services. A new category, immunization for pneumonia and influenza, was added in 2012. Inpatient psychiatric service measure sets include the monitoring and use of multiple antipsychotic medications, continuing care plans and restraint and seclusion.
