Eleos Health and UHS launch pilot to measure effectiveness of new clinical decision-support software on patient experience and treatment outcomes
King of Prussia, PA and Cambridge, MA (September 21, 2020) — Universal Health Services (UHS) and Eleos Health, a digital technology company that provides evidence-based solutions in the behavioral health space, today announce a pilot implementation of new clinical decision-support software. Highlighting and analyzing voice and speech patterns during behavioral health therapy sessions, with full and transparent patient consent, the pilot study uses clinical software to assess and measure the impact of the pandemic on a specific patient population, augment clinical and organizational decision-making, and optimize treatment outcomes.
The 6-week pilot is being conducted at a UHS Residential Behavioral Health facility located in Nashville, Tennessee, and began this month. Behavioral Health Clinicians are utilizing the new therapeutic intervention in individual weekly sessions with adolescent patients (with full consent) aged 13-17. The results of the pilot will inform a larger, more comprehensive pilot involving a larger number of facilities, clinicians and consenting patients.
During the pandemic, to keep patients and staff safe, Residential Behavioral Health facilities implemented CDC-directed precautions including restricted in-person visitation, extended electronic visits with loved ones (i.e., via Zoom), socially distanced group therapy sessions and reduced gatherings during meal times. Current clinical indications suggest that patient therapeutic outcomes have been adversely affected by the precautions that were implemented to keep patients and staff safe.
About the Clinical Decision-Support Application
The Eleos Health application is an artificial intelligence-driven, HIPAA compliant, behavioral health solution powered by therapy-specific voice analysis and natural-language processing. The Eleos Health engine uses artificial intelligence algorithms to accurately identify the two areas most crucial to treatment effects: implementation of evidence-based techniques and the therapeutic relationship. In addition, this technology auto-generates administrative reports and translates the data into actionable clinical insights for the clinician's use.
As a result, clinicians can provide more efficient and targeted care while reducing their own potential burnout. The Eleos Health app uses voice-analysis to help clinicians spend less time on data collection and documentation, and more time developing and delivering personalized treatment to their clients/patients.
“We are excited to see the therapeutic insight the Eleos pilot study will lend to the therapy process and the overall support of our clinicians,” said Tonia Goodrich, PhD, LPC-MHSP-S, Assistant Clinical Director at Hermitage Hall.
