UHS Responds to Announcement of DOJ Settlement – July 2020

UHS entered into a settlement in order to avoid the continuing costs and uncertainty of continued litigation.  The company vehemently denies the allegations and was able to present significant evidence to effectively rebut the claims. Third-party healthcare industry analysts have confirmed the dubious nature of the claims, for example concluding that UHS average length of stay is similar and in many cases lower than that of our industry peers.  Further, UHS behavioral health facilities meet and often exceed clinical standards for care and treatment provided to its patients.  After 7+ years, we are pleased that this litigation is behind us, and realize that false claim act cases have become an unfortunate reality among healthcare providers.
